Using the course

NC Lien Law & the Lien Agent System — 2-Hour CE Elective

1. Getting started

  1. Sign in with the account you want the credit recorded under. Module 1 can be read without signing in; credit needs an enrollment.
  2. Enroll on the course outline page with your NCLBGC Qualifier ID number and the Qualifier name exactly as on file with the Board. Look both up at https://www.nclbgc.org/qualifier-search/ if you are unsure.
  3. Acknowledge the 90-day window. You have 90 days from enrollment to complete this course. If you do not complete it within 90 days, you must retake the entire course on re-enrollment.
  4. Confirm your Qualifier ID each time you return. The Board requires identity confirmation on every access; it takes a moment and protects your credit.
Availability. This course cannot be purchased, started, or completed after November 30, or at any time during the month of December.

3. The tools on every module page

ControlWhat it does
🌓 Light / DarkSwitches the page between the dark and light themes. Your choice is remembered on this device.
🔊 Read aloudReads the lesson text with your browser's speech voice. ⏹ Stop ends it. Listening does not count as activity for the presence check below, so click or scroll now and then.
EspañolShows the Spanish rendering of the lesson beneath the English. English is the official course text; statute citations stay in English so you can find them at the official source.
🖨 PrintPrints the module, or saves it as a PDF through your browser's print dialog. The printout uses a high-contrast paper palette and drops the toolbar.
Time chipShows your credited instructional time for the module and for the course. Credited time can be less than the clock time; see the next section.
Spot an issue? At the end of each module, a short form to report a wrong statement, an outdated reference, a typo or a suggestion. The report carries the module you were on.

4. Instructional time and the presence check

Seat time accrues only while the course tab is active; the timer pauses on inactivity. Module dwell credits toward the 100-minute gate up to 1.5x the module’s allocated minutes (same credit policy as the VA course engine). Knowledge-check time counts as instructional time.

5. Knowledge checks

There are 12 knowledge checks across the course. Each shows the correct answer and a short explanation immediately after you answer. They are for learning, not grading: an incorrect answer does not cost credit, and you can re-read the section and try again.

6. Completing the course and your certificate

  1. Every one of the 6 modules is complete and 100 minutes of credited instructional time are recorded. There is no final examination: No summative assessment: NCLBGC removed the final-assessment requirement for CE electives (Board education staff, 2026-08-04). Completion = all six modules visited + the 100-minute verified seat-time gate.
  2. The server re-checks both conditions from its own records, then issues your certificate of completion with a unique certificate number. It is available on the course page and by download; the Board's rule is delivery within 10 days, and it is normally immediate.
  3. Keep the certificate with your license records. The provider also reports your completion to the Board (next section), so you do not need to send it yourself.

7. What is reported to the Board

As an approved provider, MASONBYTE LLC submits a completion roster to the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors through the Board's provider portal within seven calendar days of your completion, with the course ID, your Qualifier ID and name, and the completion date, and pays the Board's per-student fee (21 NCAC 12B .0204). Credit is reported only for students who completed the full course. Registration and attendance records are kept for four years and made available to the Board on request.
