By accessing or using GC Prep at gcprep.app, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the application. These terms apply to all users, including free preview users and paid subscribers.
GC Prep is a practice and study application designed to help contractors become more familiar with the topics covered on state contractor licensing examinations in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and South Carolina, nationally for Camp and Facility maintenance licensing, and for the multi-state business and law topics covered by GC Prep Multi-State.
GC Prep is an independent study tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC), the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP), or any other licensing authority.
GC Prep does not guarantee that use of this application will result in passing any licensing examination. Exam outcomes depend on many factors outside our control, including individual preparation, test conditions, and changes to exam content by the licensing authority.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and purchase access. By using GC Prep, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age.
An organization that enrolls a person under 18 in seats it has purchased (for example a school or an employer, under Section 9) does so under its own agreement with us and its own authority. That person uses GC Prep as a member of the organization’s account, and the organization agrees to these Terms on their behalf. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18 who is not enrolled through an organization’s agreement, we will delete it and the information it holds.
You sign in to GC Prep using Google OAuth. You are responsible for keeping your Google account credentials secure. You may not share your account with others or allow others to use your purchased access. Each purchase is for a single user.
GC Prep offers paid access to study modules on a per-state or bundled basis. The following terms apply to all purchases:
Renew Pro (subscription). Renew Pro is the automation tier of the license Renew Tracker:
Because GC Prep provides immediate access to digital content upon purchase, all sales are generally final. However, we offer the following:
To request a refund, email with your purchase email and the date of purchase.
You agree not to:
All content in GC Prep — including question banks, explanations, study materials, and the application itself — is the intellectual property of MasonByte LLC. You may use it for your own personal study purposes only. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from GC Prep content without written permission.
GC Prep offers team licensing for employers, training coordinators, and government agencies. If your organization purchases seats on your behalf:
GC Prep may offer optional engagement features including study progress tracking, points earned for completed practice sessions, and a leaderboard displaying relative progress among participating users.
Build Points are an in-app gamification feature only. They are NOT real currency, NOT tradeable for cash or goods, NOT redeemable outside the Service, and have NO monetary value. Earning, spending, or losing Build Points has no real-world financial consequence.
You may not buy or sell Build Points. There are no chance-based mechanisms (no loot boxes, no random rewards). All earning is deterministic based on verifiable user actions; all spending is direct exchange for specific cosmetic or convenience features within the Service.
For full details on what Build Points can be earned and spent on, see the Build Points FAQ.
You may request deletion of your account at any time via your Profile settings or by emailing support@gcprep.app.
If you have an active Renew Pro subscription when you delete your account, the subscription is canceled with it and no further charge is made.
Soft-delete grace period: 7 days. When you request deletion, your account enters a 7-day soft-delete state during which you may reactivate by signing back in. After 7 days, your personal data (profile, gamification history, leaderboard entries, points balance) is permanently removed within 30 days.
The following data is retained after deletion, in anonymized form where applicable:
Account deletion does not entitle you to a refund of past purchases. If you wish to request both a refund and deletion, do so within the 7-day refund window described in Section 6.
GC Prep may send optional study reminder emails, expiry alerts, and completion notifications. These are enabled by default and may be turned off at any time from your Profile page under Account Settings. Transactional emails related to your account — including purchase confirmations, password resets, and certificate issuance — cannot be disabled as they are necessary to operate the service.
For curricula a licensing authority recognizes (today, the Virginia DPOR-approved six-hour pre-license education course), GC Prep issues a completion certificate. Sharing that certificate yourself with a licensing authority or a supervisor is your choice.
Where a licensing authority’s rules require a course provider to report completions — for example roster reporting to the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, or continuing-education reporting in North Carolina — we send the record the authority requires, in the format and on the schedule its rules set, and we tell you when we do. We do not send your records to any other party. Records we issue for a licensing authority are kept for as long as its rules require (Section 10b). GC Prep is an independent provider and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any licensing authority.
GC Prep is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the application will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that the content is current and accurate at all times. Licensing exam content and requirements are set by state agencies and may change at any time without notice to us.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, MasonByte LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of your use of GC Prep, including but not limited to exam failure, lost wages, or business losses. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from use of GC Prep shall not exceed the amount you paid for access in the 12 months preceding the claim.
You agree to defend and indemnify MasonByte LLC against claims by third parties that arise from content you submit to GC Prep (including a display name, feedback, license details, or anything you upload), from your breach of these Terms or misuse of GC Prep, or from your violation of law. This does not cover claims that arise from our own breach of these Terms or our own negligence. An organization’s obligation under this section is limited to the seats it purchases and the people it enrolls. Where the law of your state limits an indemnity given by a consumer, this section applies only to the extent that law permits (see Section 21).
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue GC Prep at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes. If we discontinue the service permanently, lifetime access holders will receive a prorated refund based on time remaining relative to a 5-year expected service life.
GC Prep is offered as it is. We decide what it does and how it changes, and we may add, alter or remove features, question banks and states at any time. Using GC Prep does not entitle anyone to a feature, a change, a priority, or a response to a request, and we are not obliged to build or keep anything for a particular customer or organization. Nothing in this section limits the rights you have under the law of where you live, including your rights over your own data (Privacy Policy, Section 6), your refund rights (Section 6), and any certificate or record we are required to keep or produce for a licensing authority (Section 12).
We may suspend or end an account, or an organization’s seats, that break these Terms or use GC Prep for something other than exam preparation and license management. Where we can, we will say why. An account we end for breaking these Terms is deleted on the schedule in Section 10b, and we are not obliged to provide a copy of it first.
These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Prince George's County, Maryland, or the applicable federal courts in the District of Maryland. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in the small-claims court where you live, if the claim qualifies. We do not require arbitration, and nothing in these Terms waives your right to bring or join a class action.
We may update these Terms of Service periodically. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice in the app. Your continued use of GC Prep after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using GC Prep.
Before initiating any formal legal proceeding, you agree to first contact us at contact@gcprep.app and provide a written description of the dispute, including the relief sought. We will attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute informally within thirty (30) days of receiving your notice. If the dispute is not resolved within that period, either party may proceed to formal resolution as described in these Terms. This informal resolution step is a prerequisite to any court proceeding.
Earlier versions of these Terms required binding arbitration and waived class actions. As of this version they do not. Disputes are resolved as described in Sections 16 and 18: a written notice and 30 days to resolve it informally, then the courts named in Section 16 or the small-claims court where you live.
One-Year Limitation. Any cause of action arising out of or related to these Terms must be commenced within one (1) year after the cause of action accrues. Otherwise, such cause of action is permanently barred. This provision does not affect any shorter limitation period that may be imposed by applicable law.
You may not assign, transfer, or sublicense any of your rights or obligations under these Terms without the prior written consent of MasonByte LLC. Any purported assignment without such consent is void and of no effect. MasonByte LLC may freely assign these Terms, in whole or in part, without notice to you, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of all or substantially all of its assets. These Terms inure to the benefit of and are binding upon the parties and their respective permitted successors and assigns.
New Jersey Residents. If you are a consumer residing in New Jersey, the Disclaimer of Warranties, Limitation of Liability, and Indemnity provisions of these Terms do not apply to you to the extent they are unenforceable under New Jersey law. Your rights as a New Jersey consumer are not limited by these Terms.
California Residents. Under California Civil Code § 1789.3, California users may reach the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs by mail at 1625 North Market Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95834, or by telephone at (916) 445-1254 or (800) 951-5210.
If you are a California resident, you expressly waive the protections of California Civil Code § 1542, which states: "A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party." By using GC Prep, you waive these protections to the fullest extent permitted by law.
By using GC Prep, you consent to receiving electronic communications from us, including notices, agreements, disclosures, and other communications. You agree that all communications we provide to you electronically satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.
These Terms of Service, together with the Privacy Policy and any other policies referenced herein, constitute the entire agreement between you and MasonByte LLC concerning your use of GC Prep. They supersede all prior and contemporaneous agreements, representations, and understandings. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect, and the invalid or unenforceable provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving the original intent of the parties.
