1. Getting started

1. Sign in with the account you purchased under. The course is included with Virginia DPOR 120-day or lifetime access (or the DMV bundle). GC Points cannot unlock it.
2. Open the course outline and start with Module 1, which is open as a preview. Modules 2 onward show an access card until a purchase is on your account.
3. Confirm the time commitment before you begin: 360 minutes of verified instruction across 8 modules, then the final assessment.

2. Moving through the course

• Course outline. The course page lists every module with its estimated time. On each module page, the Course outline panel at the top opens the same list, so you can see where you are and how long each module takes.
• Modules unlock in sequence. Finish a module before the next opens. Inside a module, read from top to bottom; the knowledge checks sit at the end of the module.
• Previous / next. Links at the bottom of each module take you back to the outline or on to the next module once it is unlocked.
• Your place is saved. Progress, elapsed time and completed knowledge checks are stored as you go. Leave and come back; you resume where you were.
• Statute reader. Citations in the lesson open the cited law in a side panel, in the statute's own words. Close it with the × or the Escape key; nothing navigates away.

3. The tools on every module page

Control	What it does
🌓 Light / Dark	Switches the page between the dark and light themes. Your choice is remembered on this device.
🔊 Read aloud	Reads the lesson text with your browser's speech voice. ⏹ Stop ends it. Listening does not count as activity for the presence check below, so click or scroll now and then.
Español	Shows the Spanish rendering of the lesson beneath the English. English is the official course text; statute citations stay in English so you can find them at the official source.
🖨 Print	Prints the module, or saves it as a PDF through your browser's print dialog. The printout uses a high-contrast paper palette and drops the toolbar.
Time chip	Shows your credited instructional time for the module and for the course. Credited time can be less than the clock time; see the next section.
Spot an issue?	At the end of each module, a short form to report a wrong statement, an outdated reference, a typo or a suggestion. The report carries the module you were on.

4. Instructional time and the presence check

LOCKED 2026-07-14 (Matthew: '1.5* is the standard time credit cap'). Each module's lesson dwell CREDITS toward the 6-hour gate up to 1.5x its allocated minutes; raw study_time_log is never mutated. Game reinforcement credits stay per VAC-R7 (completion-gated, 900s/module-game/day). Enforced client-side in course-runner.js computeCredit() and re-verified server-side in netlify/functions/va-course-completion.js before any completion record is written.

• The timer runs only while the course tab is active. Switching tabs, minimizing the window or locking the screen pauses it. Come back and it resumes.
• After 15 minutes without a click, key press or scroll, the timer pauses behind a "Still studying?" prompt. Click Continue studying to carry on. Idle time is never credited.
• Credit per module is capped at 1.5× the module's allocated minutes, so re-reading a short module cannot substitute for the rest of the course.
• The course total is 360 minutes of credited time across all 8 modules. Knowledge-check time counts.
• Only enrolled students accrue time. Reading Module 1 as a preview records nothing; time starts counting once the purchase is on your account.

5. Knowledge checks

There are 38 knowledge checks across the course. Each shows the correct answer and a short explanation immediately after you answer. They are for learning, not grading: an incorrect answer does not cost credit, and you can re-read the section and try again.

6. The final assessment

• It unlocks when every module is complete and your 360 credited minutes are recorded. A banner on the module page tells you when it opens.
• 25 questions, drawn fresh from a pool of 116 each attempt; unanswered questions score as incorrect. Untimed.
• Passing score: 70%. If you do not pass, review the modules and retake it; attempts are limited per day to keep the assessment meaningful.
• The assessment is scored on the server, never in your browser, and the same server re-verifies your instructional time before a certificate is issued.

7. Completing the course and your certificate

1. Every one of the 8 modules is complete and 360 minutes of credited instructional time are recorded.
2. You pass the final assessment at 70% or better.
3. On the final page, confirm the name to print on the certificate exactly as it appears on your government ID. It cannot be changed afterwards except through support, because the certificate is a record the Board relies on.
4. Claim the certificate. It carries a unique certificate number and a public verification link.

8. What is reported to the Board

As an approved education provider, MASONBYTE LLC is required to report each completion to the Virginia Board for Contractors (DPOR) within seven days (18VAC50-22-320). It does so by uploading a completion roster to the Board. Your row carries the identity details you confirmed at the certificate step (your name as on your ID, mailing address, date of birth and, if you have one, your Virginia DMV control number), your completion date, and GC Prep's provider and course numbers. Only a student with no Virginia driver's license or ID card is asked for a Social Security number, on the course page and only with their consent; it goes only to DPOR, by encrypted upload, and the full number is deleted 7 days after it is given (see Privacy Policy, Section 5). The final assessment page shows when your completion was submitted. You still apply for your license yourself; the course is the pre-license education component, not the license.

9. Troubleshooting

• The timer is not moving. Make sure the course tab is the active window and you have interacted with the page in the last 15 minutes. If the "Still studying?" prompt is showing, click Continue studying.
• The next module is locked. Finish the current module: read to the end and answer its knowledge checks. Modules open in order.
• My progress disappeared. Sign in with the same account; progress is tied to it. Browsers in private mode forget local progress when closed, but your credited time is on the server and returns when you sign in.
• Modules 2 onward show an access card. The course is included with a paid 120-day or lifetime purchase on the account you are signed in with. Points unlocks do not include it. Access opens within a minute of checkout.
• Read aloud says nothing. Your browser needs a speech voice installed; most desktop and phone browsers have one. Try ⏹ Stop, then 🔊 Read aloud again.
• The statute panel will not close. Press Escape, or click the × at the top of the panel.
• Printing looks pale. Use the 🖨 Print button on the page rather than the browser menu; it applies the paper palette.

10. Accessibility

• Every control is a real button or link and works from the keyboard: Tab moves between them, Enter or Space activates, Escape closes the statute panel.
• Both themes meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast; the light theme and the print palette are tuned for paper and bright rooms.
• Read aloud offers the lesson as speech; the Spanish rendering is available where the module carries it.
• The page is a single column that reflows down to phone width and up to 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
• If something is hard to use with assistive technology, tell us at the support address below; accessibility reports are handled first.

11. Support

Email support@gcprep.app. Include the course name, the module number, what you expected and what happened, and your browser and device. For anything about your credit or certificate, include the name on your account.

2. Cómo avanzar por el curso

• Esquema del curso. La página del curso enumera cada módulo con su tiempo estimado. En cada página de módulo, el panel Course outline en la parte superior abre la misma lista, para que vea dónde está y cuánto dura cada módulo.
• Los módulos se desbloquean en orden. Termine un módulo antes de que se abra el siguiente. Dentro de un módulo, lea de arriba abajo; las comprobaciones de conocimiento están al final del módulo.
• Anterior / siguiente. Los enlaces al final de cada módulo lo llevan de vuelta al esquema o al módulo siguiente una vez desbloqueado.
• Su progreso se guarda. El avance, el tiempo transcurrido y las comprobaciones completadas se almacenan sobre la marcha. Salga y vuelva; retomará donde estaba.
• Lector de estatutos. Las citas en la lección abren la ley citada en un panel lateral, con las palabras del propio estatuto. Ciérrelo con la × o la tecla Escape; nada lo saca de la página.

3. Las herramientas en cada página de módulo

🌓 Light / Dark	Cambia la página entre el tema oscuro y el claro. Su elección se recuerda en este dispositivo.
🔊 Read aloud	Lee el texto de la lección con la voz de su navegador. ⏹ Stop la detiene. Escuchar no cuenta como actividad para la verificación de presencia descrita abajo, así que haga clic o desplácese de vez en cuando.
Español	Muestra la versión en español de la lección debajo del inglés. El inglés es el texto oficial del curso; las citas de estatutos permanecen en inglés para que pueda encontrarlas en la fuente oficial.
🖨 Print	Imprime el módulo o lo guarda como PDF desde el diálogo de impresión de su navegador. La impresión usa una paleta de alto contraste para papel y omite la barra de herramientas.
Indicador de tiempo	Muestra el tiempo de instrucción acreditado del módulo y del curso. El tiempo acreditado puede ser menor que el tiempo del reloj; vea la siguiente sección.
Spot an issue?	Al final de cada módulo, un formulario breve para reportar una afirmación incorrecta, una referencia desactualizada, una errata o una sugerencia. El reporte incluye el módulo en el que estaba.

4. Tiempo de instrucción y verificación de presencia

• El cronómetro corre solo mientras la pestaña del curso está activa. Cambiar de pestaña, minimizar la ventana o bloquear la pantalla lo pausa. Al volver, se reanuda.
• Tras 15 minutos sin un clic, una tecla o un desplazamiento, el cronómetro se pausa detrás del aviso "Still studying?". Haga clic en Continue studying para seguir. El tiempo inactivo nunca se acredita.
• El crédito por módulo tiene un tope de 1.5× los minutos asignados al módulo, de modo que releer un módulo corto no sustituye el resto del curso.
• El total del curso es de 360 minutos de tiempo acreditado en los 8 módulos. El tiempo de las comprobaciones de conocimiento cuenta.
• Solo los estudiantes inscritos acumulan tiempo. Leer el Módulo 1 como vista previa no registra nada; el tiempo empieza a contar cuando la compra está en su cuenta.

5. Comprobaciones de conocimiento

Hay 38 comprobaciones de conocimiento en el curso. Cada una muestra la respuesta correcta y una breve explicación inmediatamente después de responder. Sirven para aprender, no para calificar: una respuesta incorrecta no cuesta crédito, y puede releer la sección e intentarlo de nuevo.

6. La evaluación final

• Se desbloquea cuando todos los módulos están completos y sus 360 minutos acreditados están registrados. Un aviso en la página del módulo le indica cuándo se abre.
• 25 preguntas, tomadas al azar de un banco de 116 en cada intento; las preguntas sin responder se califican como incorrectas. Sin límite de tiempo.
• Puntaje para aprobar: 70%. Si no aprueba, repase los módulos y vuelva a intentarlo; los intentos por día son limitados para que la evaluación conserve su valor.
• La evaluación se califica en el servidor, nunca en su navegador, y el mismo servidor vuelve a verificar su tiempo de instrucción antes de emitir un certificado.

7. Completar el curso y su certificado

1. Cada uno de los 8 módulos está completo y hay 360 minutos de tiempo de instrucción acreditado registrados.
2. Aprueba la evaluación final con 70% o más.
3. En la página final, confirme el nombre que se imprimirá en el certificado exactamente como aparece en su identificación oficial. No puede cambiarse después salvo a través de soporte, porque el certificado es un registro en el que la Junta confía.
4. Reclame el certificado. Lleva un número único y un enlace público de verificación.

8. Qué se informa a la Junta

Como proveedor de educación aprobado, MASONBYTE LLC transmite los datos de finalización a la Virginia Board for Contractors (DPOR) dentro de los siete días siguientes a cada finalización, como exige la aprobación de la Junta (18VAC50-22-320). El registro lleva los datos de identidad que usted confirmó en el paso del certificado y nada más. Usted sigue solicitando su licencia por su cuenta; el curso es el componente de educación previa a la licencia, no la licencia.

9. Solución de problemas

• El cronómetro no avanza. Asegúrese de que la pestaña del curso sea la ventana activa y de haber interactuado con la página en los últimos 15 minutos. Si aparece el aviso "Still studying?", haga clic en Continue studying.
• El siguiente módulo está bloqueado. Termine el módulo actual: lea hasta el final y responda sus comprobaciones de conocimiento. Los módulos se abren en orden.
• Mi progreso desapareció. Inicie sesión con la misma cuenta; el progreso está vinculado a ella. Los navegadores en modo privado olvidan el progreso local al cerrarse, pero su tiempo acreditado está en el servidor y vuelve cuando inicia sesión.
• Los módulos 2 en adelante muestran una tarjeta de acceso. El curso está incluido con una compra pagada de 120 días o de por vida en la cuenta con la que inició sesión. Los desbloqueos con puntos no lo incluyen. El acceso se abre un minuto después del pago.
• Read aloud no dice nada. Su navegador necesita una voz de síntesis instalada; la mayoría de los navegadores de escritorio y de teléfono la tienen. Pruebe ⏹ Stop y luego 🔊 Read aloud otra vez.
• El panel de estatutos no se cierra. Pulse Escape, o haga clic en la × en la parte superior del panel.
• La impresión sale pálida. Use el botón 🖨 Print de la página en lugar del menú del navegador; aplica la paleta para papel.

10. Accesibilidad

• Cada control es un botón o enlace real y funciona desde el teclado: Tab se mueve entre ellos, Enter o Espacio los activa, Escape cierra el panel de estatutos.
• Ambos temas cumplen el contraste WCAG 2.1 AA; el tema claro y la paleta de impresión están ajustados para papel y ambientes con mucha luz.
• Read aloud ofrece la lección como voz; la versión en español está disponible donde el módulo la incluye.
• La página es una sola columna que se adapta hasta el ancho de un teléfono y hasta 200% de zoom sin desplazamiento horizontal.
• Si algo resulta difícil de usar con tecnología de asistencia, escríbanos a la dirección de soporte de abajo; los reportes de accesibilidad se atienden primero.

11. Soporte

Escriba a support@gcprep.app. Incluya el nombre del curso, el número del módulo, lo que esperaba y lo que ocurrió, y su navegador y dispositivo. Para cualquier asunto sobre su crédito o certificado, incluya el nombre de su cuenta.
